The triumph 2000 was originally brought in to have a tidy up having started to show its age. The odd bit of welding here and there and then painting the repairs white to match the car. That idea however went out the window when it became clear there was more bodywork needed than the owner had anticipated. The silver lining is that the extra work led to taking the decision to repaint the car in a colour the owner has always wanted. Bright yellow!

First the areas needing bodywork were marked out on the car so that nothing gets overlooked or missed. Easily done on a white background car.

This triumph had originally come into the owners possession with a luggage rail attached to the boot lid. The holes in the boot had been leaking water for some time and the owner know longer wanted the rail so it was removed and the holes are welded shut and filled.

The rear wing quarters and the rear valence were not in a good way. The outer valence was showing rust all the way along and not attached to the inner boot floor in places.

Both rear quarters as well as the bottom portion of the valence are cut off and replaced.

The bottom quarter of the driver door is also rotten. This panel is repaired in two sections. An inner and an outer door skin. First the paint and rust is ground back to find the extent of the rot. The outer skin is then cut out leaving the inner skin intact to use as a guide to make the repair panel.

The outer panel is made to size befor the inner skin is cut out and replaced. The outer skin is then slid over the top of the inner and welded at both ends.

Next is the bonnet. The bonnet on the triumph 2000 lifts from the back unlike the front on most cars. In this case the bonnet has been folding to far forward resulting in damage to the front nose panel and dents in the bonnet. Tabs are welded to the dents and a slide hammer is used to pull the dents out. While working around the bonnet, the owner decided to move the mirrors from the wings on to the doors. This would make it easier to see out of the mirrors but it did mean welding up the holes left by the original position.

With the welding and filler work all finished, the trim is removed and relevant areas are primed.

ree

Finally the car is painted in its new colour. In this case the owner picked his own colour from a set of colour cards but really in a full respray any colour would have been possible.

ree

The triumph is put back together with its brightwork being thoroughly cleaned up and new paint buffed to a high shine before being given back.
