This mg was in for a nice easy service. No major surgery at the KJClassics workshop for a change.

These mgb gt’s are a great choice for anyone getting into the classic car world. Simple, reliable and capable of keeping up with modern traffic. One of the best for sure.

First the air box’s are removed and new filters are fitted. The dash pots on the carburettors are topped up at the same time.

The spark plugs were not changed on this occasion. The fuel mix was spot on so the plugs were not fouled in any way. A clean up with a wire brush and a gap check and these were refitted.

Next the valve clearance was set using a feeler guage between the valve stem and rocker.

The oil was changed and a new filter was fitted.

The car is running and electronic ignition system so no points or condenser to change on this one. There was however a new distributor cap and ht lead set that needed to be fitted.

A more dirty part of this service was replacing the overdrive filter. There’s no way of doing this without getting oily unfortunately but it is an essential part of the service in order to keep the overdrive working properly.

Next is the brakes. The fronts were fine needing only to be taken apart and cleaned before greasing the sliders and putting them back together. The rear brakes were nearly as good but for one of the wheel cylinders leaking fluid when the dust cap was peeled back. This was replaced and the system was bled out. A slight adjustment to the shoes and these were finished.

The last job on this one was some rust found hiding under some this underseal.

The rotten section was cut out and a repair was made from 18 gauge steel and welded in. The repair was the resealed and the job is done.
